curators: picnic magazine
Observatory Herzliya Biennale 2009 Curators: Picnic During the project, I built a one-person observatory by hand, following instructions found in amateur forums across the internet. The telescope was also built this way. Throughout the exhibition, hundreds of people observed the celestial bodies one by one: the moon, the rings of Saturn, and Jupiter with its moons. The project stemmed from two main thoughts about the liberating and positive potential of the internet (as of 2009), namely the ability to share complex technical knowledge among amateurs achieving results that previously required expert knowledge and institutional backing. The second vector was an attempt to break from the expected field of vision of an art event, and extend beyond the here and now toward the infinite expanses of the universe.
